New for 2012: Strava Segment Challenge

Organizers of the Rouge Roubaix and Strava are adding a new twist this year. To add to the competitive excitement, riders are invited to compete on 2 Strava Segments, a longer version of Blockhouse Hill and Woodstock Road. Both segments will be flagged on course for timing purposes during the race. Riders are encouraged to bring their GPS device to the race and record their results. A Strava rep will also make loaner Garmin units available to riders during registration on a first come first serve basis. The fastest male and female for each segment will win a Castelli Apparel piece of their choice, from Strava's new 2012 kit.

Focused on the needs of avid cyclists and runners, Strava lets anyone track runs and rides via iPhone, Android or dedicated GPS devices to analyze and quantify performance and compete against friends. Strava makes fitness a social experience, providing motivation and camaraderie even if you’re exercising alone. About the Print and The Artist
In this print, Baton Rouge artist Bryce Dishongh captures the beauty and pain of this epic 100-mile road race. Using a unique balance of technical precision and ink-splotchy chaos, Bryce depicts a main rider cresting a hill in the heart of the Cajun Alps, spinning his opponents into globs of inky mud. Like battling Roman soldiers, riders hammer through gravely roads that slice through hills forming massive walls of prehistoric roots and ferns. Bryce has an artistic interest in exploring the relationships between humans, animals, and machines, and as a cyclist himself, this was an ideal project for him. You can find more of his work by visiting his Web site at www.bryce-design.com.

Welcome to home page of the Rouge Roubaix. A classic 100 mile road race that covers the good, the bad, and the ugly of the Feliciana’s. The race starts in St. Francisville, LA and travels north and west through the back roads of West Feliciana Parish and Wilkinson County, Mississippi. You will encounter a constantly rolling terrain, and a few climbs that will test all racers. The road surfaces will vary greatly. You will encounter chip and seal, sandy gravel, smooth as glass asphalt, and some roads that are just plain bad. This race is a classic test of man and his machine vs. the terrain and elements. It would be unfair to attempt to predict what type of weather to expect for the Rouge Roubaix. You should come prepared to battle 80 degree heat and Louisiana humidity (it’s worse than Houston). You should also come prepared to expect temperatures so low that your water bottles will freeze. And then again, if the cycling Gods are with us, we will get one of those perfect spring like days where it will be tough to break a sweat.

Some things to consider in preparation for the Rouge Roubaix. We will do all we can to provide rider support to some degree. However, you must come prepared. Bring spare tubes. Know how to change them tires. Know your bicycle. Know how to make adjustments and some repairs. Give your bike a complete check up before entering this race……and after. This course will test not only you, but your bike as well. For your own sake, make sure your bike is in sound mechanical shape.

We will provide neutral water hand ups at three locations. They will be at the end of every gravel section. There will be feed zones at mile 45 (on hwy 24 near Woodville) and at the Pond Store (mile 66). The Pond Store will also serve as the SAG stop. We will provide typical race food to any racer…..bananas, oranges, fig newtons, etc.

To all racers and competitors, this is not an easy race by any stretch of the imagination. You must train appropriately or this course will eat you up and spit you out. Please check with others who have competed here before. Also, check in at the forum link for other advice.

On behalf of the Raising Canes Racing Team, we look forward to seeing you all on race day.

Mitch
